INDIANAPOLIS — Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown will be suspended one game following his arrest last month, head coach Kirk Ferentz said Wednesday at Big Ten football media days.
Brown received charges of operating while intoxicated and possessing a fictitious license or ID. He allegedly backed his vehicle onto a lawn and began spinning his tires early on the morning of June 23. Iowa City police said Brown refused sobriety tests.
The one-game suspension is in line with Ferentz’s past punishments for players who have received OWI charges.
“It’s unfortunate, and we’ve had other guys through the years go through the same thing,” Ferentz said. “But all that matters right now is how he responds, how he defines it and how he wants to answer it. It’s like a team losing a game. You can’t go back and change yesterday, so what are we going to do moving forward.”
The Hawkeyes open the season at home Aug. 31 against Illinois State (11 a.m., BTN).
