IOWA CITY — Iowa wide receiver Kaleb Brown was arrested early Sunday morning and faces charges of operating while intoxicated and possessing a fictitious license or ID.
The arrest occurred at 2:25 a.m. on Sunday near Brown’s Iowa City apartment. Brown allegedly drove with heavy front-end damage, backed his vehicle onto a lawn and began spinning the tires.
The damage to Brown’s 2023 Dodge Durango included “front wheel that was turned completely sideways,” according to Iowa City police.
He allegedly had “bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, poor balance and a strong odor of an ingested alcoholic beverage upon his breath,” according to a criminal complaint. Police say Brown refused sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
Brown, who will turn 21 in October, also was “found to be in possession of a completely fictitious” driver's license, according to police.
“Brown is subject to established university protocol regarding the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations set for members of the football program,” team spokesman Matt Weitzel wrote in an email.
Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz has not commented on the arrest.
Brown emerged as a key part of Iowa’s receiving corps last year, recording 22 catches for 215 yards in the Hawkeyes’ last six games after not having any receptions for the first two months of the season.
