IOWA CITY — “Tight End U” has sent another tight to the NFL.
The Houston Texans have selected Iowa’s Luke Lachey in the seventh round with the 255th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Lachey is the 14th Iowa tight end drafted in the Kirk Ferentz era and the sixth Iowa tight end drafted since 2017. It is the first time that Iowa has had tight ends drafted in three consecutive drafts since 2003-05, when Dallas Clark, Erik Jensen and Tony Jackson were drafted.
The Columbus, Ohio, native’s NFL career will begin after appearing in 42 games and starting 24 times as a Hawkeye. His best season statistically was in 2022, when he had 28 receptions for 398 yards and four touchdowns. He had a season-ending ankle injury in 2023 and also was limited at points in 2024 with a separate injury.
