IOWA CITY — Iowa tight end Erick All Jr. will miss the rest of this season after tearing the ACL in his right knee, football coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed during his Tuesday news conference.
The injury, which occurred in the first half of Iowa’s 15-6 win over Wisconsin on Saturday, is expected to need surgery.
All’s absence leaves the Hawkeyes without another of their top receivers.
Iowa already lost fellow tight end Luke Lachey, who suffered an injury that required surgery and “most likely” was season-ending. Ferentz, asked Tuesday about Lachey’s status, did not rule out a return in time for the bowl game.
“The window is open for that maybe sometime in December, but it’s certainly not for sure,” Ferentz said.
Quarterback Cade McNamara also is out for the rest of the season after injuring the ACL in his left knee last month.
All was the Hawkeyes’ top receiver by a wide margin with 21 receptions. No other receiver has more than 10 receptions.
Iowa’s remaining options at tight end include Addison Ostrenga and Steven Stilianos. Ostrenga has missed the last two games with an injury, but has participated in “partial practice” this week. Ferentz is “optimistic” about Ostrenga’s status for Saturday, “but we’ll have to see how the week goes.”
Stilianos has five receptions through Iowa’s first seven games.
The Hawkeyes’ passing game has struggled mightily through seven games, ranking 130th out of 130 FBS teams in completion percentage and 129th in passing yards per attempt.
Other injury notes
Running back Jaziun Patterson “is practicing and looks like he’s OK,” Ferentz said Tuesday, after missing Iowa’s last four games.
Ferentz did not rule out defensive lineman Yahya Black from playing. Black was seen wearing a sling at the end of Saturday’s game.
“We’ll wait and see,” Ferentz said of Black.
Backup cornerback T.J. Hall is “not going to make it this week for sure,” Ferentz said. He put fellow backup cornerback Deshaun Lee’s injury in the “wait and see” category for Saturday.
Last week was Hall’s first time with an injury designation. Lee has not been available since Week 5.
