IOWA CITY — Iowa football has received some help in the secondary via the transfer portal.
Former South Dakota cornerback Shahid Barros has signed with the Hawkeyes, the team announced Friday in a press release.
Barros appeared in 36 games in four seasons with South Dakota and allowed 54 receptions on 93 targets (58.1 percent), per Pro Football Focus. That includes 32 receptions on 50 targets in 12 games in 2024.
The New Bedford, Mass., native has one season of eligibility remaining.
He’ll be competing at a position led by senior T.J. Hall and junior Deshaun Lee. A pair of second-year players — Jaylen Watson and Rashad Godfrey — were listed as Iowa’s second-team cornerbacks on the depth chart at the beginning of spring practices.
Barros is Iowa’s first defensive addition in the spring portal window. The Hawkeyes also added former Ferris State offensive lineman Bryce George and former Wake Forest quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski.
