Hawkeyes are unbeaten in “White Out” games at Nittany Lions’ Beaver Stadium

1. Iowa was ranked third and Penn State fourth when the Hawkeyes beat the Nittany Lions, 23-20, in October 2021. The Hawkeyes finished the season ranked 23rd and Penn State was unranked.
2. This is Iowa's first game on CBS since the 1997 Sun Bowl. The Hawkeyes are 12-4-1 on that network.
3. Iowa had winning Big Ten road records in each of the last three seasons and hasn't had a losing one since 2017.
4. Penn State has more quarterbacks from Iowa (freshman Jaxon Smolik of West Des Moines Dowling) than the Hawkeyes.
5. Four of the last five games in this series were decided by six points or less.
6. Penn State was 11-11 over 2020 and 2021, 11-2 last season.
7. In 1996, now-Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin was the offensive coordinator for the Roskilde Kings of the Danish American Football Federation.
8. Penn State has won more Rose Bowls in the last nine months than Iowa has in the last 64 years.
9. Iowa scored 41 or more points in three games at Penn State (1983, 2002, 2020).
10. This is Iowa’s fourth game against a Top 10-ranked Penn State team since 2017.
11. When Penn State's Beaver Stadium is filled to capacity (106,572) as is usually the case, it has more people than all but three cities in Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown) and two-and-a-half times more than State College.
12. The Nittany Lions are 41-8 at home since 2016.
13. Iowa and Penn State have female presidents, Barbara Wilson and Neeli Bendapudi. Seven of the Big Ten’s 14 current members have women in charge. Washington and USC will make it 9 of 18 next year if there are no changes between now and then.
14. This is Penn State’s annual “White Out” game, in which all spectators are encouraged to wear white. The Nittany Lions are 10-8 in such games, 0-1 against Iowa (a 21-10 loss in 2009). They have won their last three.
15. Iowa’s first game against Penn State was a 19-0 Hawkeyes win in 1930. Iowa lost to Marquette, Centenary and Oklahoma A&M that year, but defeated Bradley Tech and Detroit.
