IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa and Iowa State University have extended the contract for the annual Cy-Hawk football game through 2027, the schools announced Thursday.
The extension follows the same home-road pattern as before. The 2026 game will be in Iowa City, and the 2027 game will be in Ames.
The previous contract went through 2025. Iowa and Iowa State have played annually since 1977, with the exception of the COVID-19-affected 2020 season.
The extension through 2027 may not necessarily be iron-clad, though. The contract has included a clause that allows either team to nullify the agreement if the Big Ten or Big 12 changes their “scheduling protocol” to add conference games.
