IOWA CITY — The next time Iowa football plays, it will have a number next to its name.
Iowa is ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Poll released Sunday after a one-week absence from the poll.
The Hawkeyes were the preseason No. 25 team in the AP Poll, but slipped out after the 24-14 win against Utah State.
Losses by Wisconsin, Texas A&M and Tulane — teams previously ranked 19th, 23rd and 24th — along with Iowa’s 20-13 win over Iowa State led to the re-entrance in the poll.
Other Big Ten teams in the poll include No. 2 Michigan, No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State. No other teams from Iowa’s west division are ranked.
With Iowa’s inclusion in an in-season AP Poll, the Hawkeyes have been ranked at least once in eight of the last nine seasons. The 2022 season was the one exception.
Iowa also is No. 24 in the American Football Coaches Association Coaches Poll after previously being unranked.
