IOWA CITY — Head coach Kirk Ferentz has the opportunity to provide a full update during his weekly press conference Tuesday afternoon, but a report from CBS Sports said Saturday evening that Gronowski’s injury wasn’t long-term or season-ending.
The report included that Gronowski’s status is still “TBD.” Iowa releases its weekly depth chart for game days on Mondays, and is required to put an availability report through the Big Ten two hours before kickoff.
Offensive coordinator Tim Lester deflected any official injury updates on Gronowski to Ferentz during his availability last week, but said he “hopes so” that Gronowski will be available against Wisconsin. When asked for clarification if it was season-ending, Lester knocked on the lecturn.
“It's cloudy, but he's rehabbing,” Lester said. “They're all rehabbing.”
The Hawkeye quarterback went down in the fourth quarter against No. 11 Indiana during a third-and-long quarterback keeper. After getting tripped up, Gronowski was slow to get up and two athletic trainers helped him off the field and to the medical tent.
Gronwoski didn’t return to the game, and sophomore quarterback Hank Brown finished the game.
The South Dakota State transfer broke the NCAA record for most career wins by a quarterback, reaching 52 wins during Iowa’s Big Ten opener against Rutgers. Gronowski is also one of the team’s leading rushers, recording 150 yards on the ground and seven rushing touchdowns. He’s had 636 passing yards for three passing touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
