IOWA CITY — Iowa football could be without some key offensive weapons on its trip to No. 7 Penn State on Saturday.
Tight end Luke Lachey and running backs Kaleb Johnson and Jaziun Patterson are not listed on Monday’s depth chart.
Lachey’s absence is no surprise. The star tight end had to exit last week’s game against Western Michigan with an injury Kirk Ferentz described as “fairly significant.” He did not put any weight on his right side and was seen wearing a boot on his right foot later on the sidelines.
An extended absence for Lachey would be costly for the Hawkeyes, as he is their leading receiver with 10 catches for 131 yards. Erick All is listed as the first-team tight end in Lachey’s absence, followed by Addison Ostrenga and Steven Stilianos.
Johnson, Iowa’s No. 1 running back, missed all of the Week 3 win over Western Michigan with an ankle injury. Patterson had a “little bit of a tweak” going into Week 3, Ferentz said, which was “tweaked” again vs. Western Michigan.
With Johnson and Patterson both out, Leshon Williams is the clear No. 1 running back on the depth chart.
True freshmen Kamari Moulton and Terrell Washington Jr., who saw their first game action against Western Michigan, are behind Williams on the depth chart.
