IOWA CITY — Iowa football has gotten a big reinforcement on the offensive line via the transfer portal.
Former Ferris State offensive lineman Bryce George has committed to the Hawkeyes, his agents told the recruiting outlet On3 early Friday morning.
The 6-foot-5, 314-pound offensive tackle has one year of eligibility remaining after appearing in 41 games for Division II-level Ferris State. He was a Division II All-American and helped the Bulldogs claim three national titles.
George could fill a need for Iowa at offensive tackle after four-year starter Mason Richman graduated. The Hawkeyes are returning three other starters on the offensive line — center Logan Jones, left guard Beau Stephens and right tackle Gennings Dunker.
The starting left tackle on Iowa’s spring depth chart is Jack Dotzler, who has appeared in six games as a reserve in his first three years on campus. Trevor Lauck, a sophomore from Indianapolis, also has been competing at the position.
George is Iowa’s first transfer portal commitment since the spring window opened this week. Players have until April 30 to enter the portal, but they do not necessarily need to commit to their next school in that timeframe.
George joins a position group that excelled in 2024, particularly in the ground game. The Hawkeyes averaged 5.12 yards per carry, which ranked third in the Big Ten. Jones and Connor Colby each earned first-team all-Big Ten recognition after the season. Dunker was a second-team all-Big Ten honoree.
