IOWA CITY — Iowa offensive lineman Beau Stephens, tight end Addison Ostrenga and fullback Hayden Large are not listed on Iowa football’s Week 8 depth chart as they recover from injuries.
Stephens and Large both have ankle injuries, Kirk Ferentz said after Iowa’s Week 7 game against Washington. Stephens exited the game, with Tyler Elsbury replacing him. Large participated in pregame warmups, but “couldn’t go” in the game. Ostrenga missed Saturday’s game as well and had his right arm in a sling.
Elsbury is listed as Iowa’s first-team left guard in Stephens’ absence. The 6-foot-5, 316-pound senior has appeared in 43 games and started three times in his career.
Zach Ortwerth is again Iowa’s second-team tight end while Ostrenga is out, and Eli Miller is Iowa’s first-team fullback. Ortwerth has two receptions for 35 yards this season. Miller has appeared in five games this season while not recording any statistics.
Monday’s depth chart release is not always a perfect indicator, however, of someone’s chances of playing. Last week’s depth chart, for example, had Ostrenga listed on the depth chart despite Kirk Ferentz saying one day later that he would “probably” not be available against Washington.
Ferentz’s Tuesday news conference will likely be the better indicator of Ostrenga, Large and Stephens’ injury situations.
