Iowa City High swimmer Grace Hoeper, who attends Solon and will swim collegiately at Indiana, elected to defend her two 2023 state titles. All four schools in Iowa City are in the state football playoffs’ round of 16. Iowa City Regina won its Class 1A first-round game last week. For the first time in the 16-qualifier era of big school football, a public district has three qualifiers in Iowa City Liberty, Iowa City West and Iowa City High in Class 5A.
The Hawkeyes’ freshman Harlee Hiller capped off a perfect debut with two wins on her birthday, while Nyla Valencia, Reese Larramendy and the rest of the team didn’t concede a point in the first-ever All-Iowa Dual.
The Hawkeyes beat both Central College and Cornell.
