Led by individual champion Adam Gray, Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s boys’ cross country team earned its first MVC Super meet title in school history Thursday at Birdsall Park. The Cougars placed all five scorers in the top 17 and upset Class 4A top-ranked, short-handed Cedar Falls.

Iowa City West earned a runner-up at the Class 4A district meet Monday at Brown Deer Golf Club in Coralville. The Trojans qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2009. Senior Dillon Croco led West, winning medalist honors with 5-under 66.

Iowa City High’s Jake Mitchell played football his first two falls but joined then golf team as a junior when a broken leg suffered during baseball kept him off the gridiron. The senior is healthy and decided to play both sports this fall, helping the Little Hawks win their first MVC golf divisional title since 2002 and leading the football team in tackles.
