City View Community High School is moving this fall from its location in downtown Cedar Rapids to the Linn County Regional Center in Hiawatha. Iowa BIG, a project-based learning program in Cedar Rapids, will move into the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance — where City View is currently located.
Students from Iowa BIG — a project-based learning program based in Cedar Rapids — set out to educate children about local laws on driving ATVs and UTVs. They shared the importance of wearing helmets and other safety guidelines. Even the students who have grown up riding the vehicles, said they learned something about safety through the project.
The high school students are learning how to code, use a 3-D printer and problem solve at UnityPoint Health’s Generate Lab.
City View Community High School will launch in August 2023 for rising ninth- and 10th-graders interested in project-based learning.
The event, with a free clinic followed by a pay-to-play tournament, is open to the public.
In 2022, Iowa BIG hopes to expand by tying student projects more to their career interests.
