Washington Mystics draft Iowa’s Lucy Olsen with the 23rd pick in the WNBA Draft
She becomes the 20th Hawkeye to be selected, the fourth in three years

IOWA CITY — Lucy Olsen has been selected in the WNBA Draft by the Washington Mystics.
A senior who played three years at Villanova before transferring to Iowa for her final season at Iowa, Olsen was the 23rd pick (second round).
“I am beyond thrilled for Lucy,” Iowa Coach Jan Jensen said in a release by the university.
“She is a relentless worker and was a joy to coach. Being a part of her journey and seeing her attain her goal of being drafted is simply incredible. Lucy deserves this moment, and I am so happy for her. Washington is getting a great one.”
Olsen was the fourth Washington pick in the draft, joining first-rounders Sonia Citron (Notre Dame), Kiki Iriafen (USC) and Georgia Amoore (Kentucky).
Washington is 154 miles from Olsen’s hometown of Collegeville, Pa.
Olsen became the fourth Hawkeye drafted in the last three years, and the 20th overall.
Caitlin Clark was the No. 1 pick (by the Indiana Fever) last year, and went on the earn WNBA rookie-of-the-year honors. Kate Martin went in the second round to the Las Vegas Aces.
Monika Czinano was a third-round selection by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2023.
As expected, Paige Bueckers of national-champion Connecticut was the No. 1 overall draft by the Dallas Wings.
