What to know: The game is a reunion for UCLA’s Lauren Betts and Iowa’s Addison O’Grady, who played on the same team at Grandview High School in Aurora (Colo.).
A 6-foot-7 junior post (and a Stanford transfer) Betts averages 19.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, shooting 61.3 percent from the field. She missed two games with a mild injury to her right foot, but returned for Thursday’s game against Illinois and scored 22 points and recorded six blocks.
O’Grady is a 6-4 senior post. She is the Hawkeyes’ third-leading scorer (10.8 ppg) and shoots at a 64.6-percent clip.
This is the third meeting between the teams, the first since Nov. 24, 2016 (a 78-65 UCLA victory).
UCLA had been ranked No. 1 for the majority of the season, but slipped to No. 3 after suffering its only loss, Feb. 13 at USC. The rematch with the Trojans is March 1 in a game that is likely to decide the Big Ten regular-season championship.
Iowa had a six-game win streak come to an end Monday, 86-78 in overtime at Ohio State. The Hawkeyes trailed by 12 points with 90 seconds left in regulation, but Lucy Olsen spearheaded a whirlwind comeback.
Olsen leads the Hawkeyes at 17.8 points and 5.1 assists per game.
UCLA associate coach Shannon (Perry) LeBeauf played at Iowa from 1994 through 1998.
