VILLENEUVE-D’ASCQ, France — Former Iowa star Megan Gustafson had a second-straight strong game for Spain, and is going to the quarterfinals of the Olympic women’s basketball tournament.
Gustafson had 18 points and 13 rebounds in Spain’s 63-62 win over Puerto Rico Wednesday, assuring the 2-0 Spaniards advancement into the quarterfinals no matter what happens in their Saturday Group A pool-play game against Serbia (6:30 a.m.).
Again, Gustafson had the game-high in points. The 2019 college National Player of the Year scored 29 Sunday in Spain’s 90-89 victory over China.
Spain led 39-25 at halftime. Laura Gil of Spain scored the game-winning points, making two free throws with 1.9 seconds left.
