What to know: This is Game No. 1 at Iowa for Ben McCollum, but it’s the 44-year-old’s 521st game as a college head coach. He has 425 wins.

It’s Game No. 494 at Robert Morris for coach Andy Toole. He was the Horizon League’s Coach of the Year last season. With current Iowa player Alvaro Folgueiras of Spain (the Horizon’s Player of the Year), Toole’s Colonials won the conference regular-season and tournament titles just like McCollum’s Drake club did in the Missouri Valley Conference.

They were picked fourth in the Horizon in this year’s preseason poll despite losing their top four scorers to the NCAA transfer portal.

Monday, Folgueiras said he has “a sense of respect to a team, a coach that gave me everything. It was my only offer and they gave me the chance to show the rest of the people in the NCAA that they were wrong about me coming out of high school.

“They gave me that chance, and I made my part to make them champions. I’m going to remember them with huge love.”

Only wing Ryan Prather returned to RMU from Toole’s top nine players last season. Folgueiras averaged 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds.

Guard Jeremiah Littlejohn is a junior guard for Robert Morris. He played at Kirkwood Community College three seasons ago.

Iowa has won its last 13 season-openers. McCollum’s teams have won their last nine openers, with the last loss in a lid-lifter coming against Upper Iowa in 2015 when McCollum coached Northwest Missouri State.
