PEORIA, Ill. — University of Iowa women’s basketball signee Aaliyah Guyton has torn the ACL in her right knee and is out for the remainder of her senior season, the Peoria (Ill.) Journal Star reported Thursday.
A point guard and the daughter of former Indiana player A.J. Guyton, Aaliyah is one of five members of the Hawkeyes’ much-anticipated Class of 2024. She is ranked 57th nationally by ESPN.com.
Guyton was injured in a game Dec. 29, according to the report. The Journal Star said that her father confirmed that the test results obtained Thursday indicated a torn ACL.
Her Peoria High School, is 16-1 and ranked No. 2 in Illinois’ Class 3A.
Assuming Guyton isn’t ready for the start of the 2024-25 season at Iowa, and if Caitlin Clark doesn’t come back for a fifth season, it would leave the Hawkeyes in a quandry at the point.
Top candidates would include current Iowa freshman Kennise Johnson and Taylor Stremlow, a freshman-to-be of Verona, Wis.
