IOWA CITY — Aaliyah Guyton’s career with the Iowa women’s basketball program apparently will be a one-and-done endeavor.
National women’s basketball reporter Talia Goodman first reported Guyton has entered the transfer portal.
The Gazette received confirmation Monday night.
A 5-foot-7 guard from Peoria, Ill., Guyton came to Iowa as the No. 57 overall prospect in the 2024 class (ESPN.com). She averaged 21.6 points and 3.8 assists as a junior, but missed her senior campaign due to a knee injury.
At Iowa, Guyton played in 29 games, with one start. She was seventh on the team in minutes per game (16.3).
Guyton averaged 4.7 points per game, shooting 37.5 percent from the floor and 37.3 percent from 3-point range. She accumulated 33 assists, but committed 49 turnovers.
Her apparent departure means Iowa will have three potential openings for transfer-portal incomers.
The Hawkeyes had 14 on their roster last season, losing four to graduation (Lucy Olsen, Sydney Affolter, Addison O’Grady and A.J. Ediger), and now Guyton.
Freshmen Addie Deal, Layla Hays and Journey Houston will join the program in the fall.
Also, The Gazette learned that portal prospect Jada Williams, formerly from the University of Arizona, will not be joining the Hawkeyes.
Williams visited UI last weekend.
