What to know: Iowa has won eight straight in the series and has beaten Minnesota 13 consecutive times at Carver.
The Golden Gophers are off to their best start since opening 14-1 nine years ago. They have won eight straight games (their only loss this season was at home against Connecticut) and have matched their win total from last season (11-19).
First-year Minnesota coach Dawn Plitzuweit entered the season at 365-141 in 16 seasons, including 248-103 at the Division-I level. She led West Virginia to the NCAA tournament last year.
Caitlin Clark is four assists away from becoming Iowa’s all-time leader in that category. She has 894, which is 16th on the Division-I career list. Samantha Logic is 14th, with 898.
At a nation-leading 30.5 points per game, it should take Clark (3,114 career points) little time to climb into the top five in scoring. She is currently seventh, behind Lorri Bauman of Drake (3,115) and Patricia Hoskins of Mississippi Valley State (3,122).
Minnesota is led in scoring by sophomore Mara Braun, at 20.3 points per game. Junior Maggie Czinano, younger sister of former Hawkeyes post Monika Czinano, has played in all 12 games and averages 3.9 points per game.
Iowa has won nine in a row and ranks seventh nationally in field goal percentage (.508) and eighth in scoring (90.5 ppg).
The rematch is Feb. 28 at Minneapolis.
