What to know: Purdue defeated Iowa 87-68 in the Big Ten-opener for both last Dec. 4 Senior center Zach Edey scored 25 points for the Boilermakers. Purdue shot 52.3 percent from the field, Iowa 38.5 percent.
Edey, the reigning National Player of the Year, averages Big Ten-highs of 24.4 points and 13.4 rebounds in conference games. His 22.9 points per game total ranks third nationally and first among major-conference players.
Purdue guard Braden Smith has a league-high 8.0 assists in Big Ten play. His team leads the Big Ten in scoring margin, rebound margin, field goal percentage and 3-point percentage. Edey is first in field goal percentage. Iowa’s Ben Krikke is second.
Iowa is coming off an 86-77 win at Minnesota Monday, its third-straight win and first true road victory. Sophomore guard Josh Dix became the sixth different Hawkeye to score 20 points in a game this season with a career-high 21.
Hawkeye senior guard Tony Perkins is averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals in Big Ten games.
Iowa (87.1 points per game) and Purdue (85.1) are the Big Ten’s top two teams in scoring.
The Hawkeyes are 6-10 all-time against No. 2-ranked teams. Their last win over a top-two team was against No. 1 Michigan State in 2015.
