IOWA CITY — Lisa Bluder’s retirement after 24 seasons as the Iowa head women’s basketball coach — and the subsequent promotion of Jan Jensen as her replacement — marks the end of an era.
It was an era that featured unprecedented success both for the Hawkeyes on the court and for the sport of women’s basketball as a whole off the court.
Here is a look at the Lisa Bluder’s historic tenure with the Hawkeyes, by the numbers:
1 — Lisa Bluder is the only coach from the Big Ten since 2000 to be named the Naismith National Coach of the Year. It happened in 2019.
2 — National championship game appearances (and the only ones in program history)
3 — Times that Bluder was named Big Ten Coach of the Year (2001, 2008, 2010)
3 — Times that a Bluder-coached athlete was named the Naismith National Player of the Year
4 — Consensus All-Americans from Iowa under Bluder’s tutelage

32 — Wins in Big Ten tournament games (the most for any coach)
40 — Seasons as a head coach, including her six years at St. Ambrose and 10 years at Drake. She had a winning record in all but three of those seasons.
65 — Iowa players who earned all-Big Ten honors in the Bluder era
65 — Wins in Lisa Bluder’s last two seasons as head coach. The 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons were the two most successful years in program history.
