Carter Kingsbury is seeking a new basketball home.
The senior-to-be guard announced Wednesday that he was leaving Iowa and entering the NCAA transfer portal. That leaves Cooper Koch as the only scholarship player from the 2024-25 Hawkeyes who is returning to Iowa for Ben McCollum’s first year as head coach.
Kingsbury, from Ponca, Neb., is the son of former Hawkeye player Chris Kingsbury. He came to Iowa as a walk-on. He was placed on scholarship before last season began.
He played in 23 games this season, averaging 1.2 points. He played 29 minutes in Iowa’s home win over Washington on Feb. 22.
The Hawkeyes have six scholarship players on their roster, five of them coming with McCollum from Drake.
