IOWA CITY — University of Iowa women’s basketball player Sydney Affolter is expected to miss about a month after undergoing a surgical scope of her knee.
“This is an unfortunate setback for Sydney, but she will work hard during her rehab and is expected to make a full recovery,” Iowa Coach Jan Jensen said in a statement.
“She has the support of her teammates and coaches, and we look forward to having a healthy Sydney back when she is given clearance from our medical staff.”
The release from the university, sent Tuesday afternoon, said that Affolter “will be ready to return to action in early November.”
Affolter was a key ingredient in Iowa’s march to a second consecutive NCAA tournament final. She was selected to the Big Ten all-tournament team and the Albany 2 all-regional team.
She finished the season averaging 8.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 2023-24, reaching double figures in seven of the last nine games.
The Hawkeyes open the 2024-25 season with an exhibition game Oct. 30, at home against Missouri Western. The regular season begins Nov. 6 against Northern Illinois, also at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
