Iowa freshman forward Cooper Koch has withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal and opted to remain a Hawkeye.
He is the first of nine Iowa players in the NCAA transfer portal to stay with the team, now coached by Ben McCollum. Koch wrote this on social media Sunday:
“After speaking with Coach McCollum, I believe his vision for the men’s basketball team is one that aligns with mine. With that being said, I have decided to withdraw my name from the transfer portal and stay HOME.”
Plagued by health issues, the 6-foot-8 Koch was a rotation player before shutting it down for the season. He played in just 10 games, averaging 4.6 points. He made 9 of 21 three-pointers.
He is the son of former Iowa men’s basketball player J.R. Koch. He was a 4-star recruit out of Peoria, Ill.
