What to know: Iowa men’s basketball turns to its second ranked matchup in four days, facing No. 7 Nebraska for the first time this season. The Hawkeyes are on a two-game skid, falling to Maryland in College Park on Wednesday and to No. 13 Purdue, 78-57, Saturday afternoon in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa sits in eighth in the Big Ten heading into its matchup against the Cornhuskers — the final double-bye position in the tournament bracket. Nebraska is third in the Big Ten.
Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg helped led his team to a 20-0 start, before dropping going 2-3 in its last five games. The team lost its first game on Jan. 27 to No. 2 Michigan.
The Cornhuskers have four players averaging in double figures: Pryce Sandfort (17.5), Rienk Mast (14.3), Braden Frager (11.8) and Jamarques Lawrence (10.6). Sandfort is also fourth in the conference in 3-point percentage, shooting 40.2-percent from beyond the arc. Iowa guard Bennett Stirtz is third in that category, shooting 40.3-percent.
“They've been excellent,” Iowa head coach Ben McCollum said Monday morning. “They have a great offensive system. (Sam Hoiberg) is one of the more difficult guards to defend, and they play with a lot of energy. It’s going to be a great challenge for us.”
