What to know: Iowa’s six-game winning streak heads to College Park, Maryland, where the Hawkeyes have a chance to secure a season sweep of the Terrapins for just the second time in program history.
The Hawkeyes beat the Terrapins on Dec. 10 for their first Big Ten win of the season, and first in the Ben McCollum era, despite Maryland attempted 38 free throws during the game.
Guard Bennett Stirtz earned the Co-Big Ten Player of the Week honor for the second-straight week after scoring a career-high 36 points against Northwestern Sunday afternoon. He scored 25 points against Maryland in December.
The Terrapins will also be without Pharrel Payne, their leading scorer and rebounder, who’s been out with a long-term injury he suffered Dec. 13. Instead, guard David Coit leads Maryland with 15.2 points per game, shooting 43 percent from the floor and 38 percent from long distance.
Maryland has lost four of its last five games, but five of its nine wins this season have come at XFINITY Arena this season. The Terrapins are one of three Big Ten teams with just two conference wins the season, and one of five less than four.
Iowa head coach Ben McCollum sits third in program history for most wins in the first season, just one behind Bucky O’Connor (1951-52) with 19. Dr. Tom Davis (1986-87) holds the program record with 30 wins in his first season.
