What to know: Iowa is coming off a 74-61 second-round win over 24th-ranked Michigan State Thursday. Lucy Olsen led Iowa with 21 points. She has averaged 23.2 points over her last eight games.
The winner of this game will meet the winner of Friday’s UCLA-Nebraska game Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (Iowa time)
In their regular-season meeting, host Ohio State beat Iowa 86-78 in overtime on Feb. 17. The Hawkeyes trailed by 14 points in the second quarter. Freshman guard Jaloni Cambridge scored 29 points for OSU. Olsen scored 27.
Cambridge is the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was first-team All-Big Ten in the coaches’ voting. She averages 16 points, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals, ranking 11th, 11th and 4th in the league in those categories, respectively.
Buckeye sophomore forward Cotie McMahon is a first-team All-Big Ten player for the second-straight year and was the league’s Freshman of the Year in 2024. She averages 16.9 points.
“Cambridge, oof, she’s tremendous,” Iowa Coach Jan Jensen said after Thursday’s win. “Cotie McMahon, tremendous. All of them, man.
“They just are really explosive. They’re powerful. They press. We have to handle the press. We have to handle their speed.”
Ohio State leads the Big Ten in steals per game with 12.6 and is second nationally in turnover margin at +9.6 per game.
The Hawkeyes have won their last four games, all by at least 13 points. Iowa has 11 straight wins in this tourney, dating to the start of the 2022 event.
No. 3-seeds are 4-1 against No. 11-seeds in this tourney.
