Iowa’s men’s basketball program got a verbal commitment Monday from 2026 recruit Navon Shabazz, a 6-foot-3 guard.
Joe Tipton of On3.com first reported the news. Shabazz is a junior who helped Davenport Assumption to the Class 3A state championship in March. He will play at Iowa United Prep in Des Moines this year for head coach Dean Oliver, a former Iowa player and Wisconsin assistant coach.
Shabazz is Iowa’s first 2026 commitment. He had offers from Iowa State and Wake Forest, among others. He averaged 14.7 points and 3.1 assists for Assumption last season.
