What to know: Iowa is coming off its first road win of the season, 84-73 at Rutgers. It was the Hawkeyes’ first Quad 1 victory.
Iowa’s Josh Dix is averaging 22 points over the last three games. He has made 46.6 percent of his 3-pointers in Big Ten games.
Hawkeye sophomore forward Ladji Dembele has a total of 16 points in his last two games after scoring a total of 11 points in Iowa’s first nine games of 2025.
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery was noncommital on whether guard Drew Thelwell, who missed the Rutgers game with an ankle injury, would play in this game. “He’s getting closer,” McCaffery said.
Maryland, coached by Kevin Willard, has won six of its last seven games. It is unbeaten at home in conference play. All of its six losses were by six points or less.
The Terrapins’ five starters average between 11.8 and 15.9 points per game. On four occasions, including their 83-75 win at Nebraska Thursday, the five all scored in double figures. They’ve done that four times this season.
Derik Queen, a 6-foot-10 freshman from Baltimore, is the leading scorer. He was a five-star recruit. He scored 24 points at Nebraska. He had 20 rebounds in a game against Manhattan. Senior forward Julian Reese and Queen are third and fourth in the Big Ten in rebounding.
Junior guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie averages 14.3 points and 4.7 assists. He was a teammate of Iowa’s Even Brauns at Belmont two seasons ago.
