What to know: The Hawkeyes and Bluejays both routed two mid-major teams at home last week. Iowa averaged 104 points, Creighton 97.

Eight Bluejays average from 6.5 to 20.5 points, with 6-foot-4 junior guard Trey Alexander at the high end.

“We have a lot of guys that can score,” said Bluejays Coach Greg McDermott. They know that and are willing to turn a good shot into a great shot.“

Creighton has transfers from Memphis, Virginia, South Dakota State and Utah State in its 10-player rotation. Junior guard Steven Ashworth was first-team All-Mountain West last season at Utah State, averaging 16.2 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 43.4 percent (111-of-256) from deep.

McDermott is a Cascade native, played at Northern Iowa, coached at UNI from 2001-2006 and led the Panthers to three NCAA tournaments, and coached at Iowa State from 2006-2010. His son, Doug McDermott, played high school ball at Ames, was an All-American at Creighton, and is in his 10th NBA season.

Payton Sandfort leads Iowa in scoring (19.0) and rebounding (10.5). Freshman guard Brock Harding averages seven assists, and sophomore Dasonte Bowen is averaging five. Every player in the Hawkeyes’ 10-man rotation has made a 3-pointer.

This is a Gavitt Tipoff Games contest, Iowa’s fifth. They pit Big Ten and Big East teams. It’s Iowa’s first game in Omaha since 1999.

Creighton averaged 17,143 fans last season, eighth-most in men’s basketball.
