Josh Dix of the Iowa men’s basketball team is entering the NCAA transfer portal.
“Due to the recent coaching change and after reflecting with my family, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal,” Dix said Wednesday in a social media post.
The 6-foot-5 guard from Council Bluffs has one season of eligibility remaining.
Dix is the fifth player from the 2024-25 Hawkeyes to enter the portal, joining Owen Freeman, Brock Harding, Riley Mulvey and Pryce Sandfort.
Dix played in 97 games over three seasons for Iowa, and started 32 games in 2024-25, He gained a lot of acclaim for his step-back midrange jumpers, shooting accuracy, and ability to create his own shot. He averaged 14.4 points in the season that just ended, averaging 50.7 percent shooting and 42.2 percent from 3-point distance.
He suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his Lincoln High’s game on Jan. 21, 2022, but resumed his basketball career with the Hawkeyes that fall.
“I want to give Josh his flowers.” Iowa senior forward Payton Sandfort said after his team’s season-ending loss to Illinois March 13 at the Big Ten tournament. Dix had 21 points in that game.
“He’s fought through a lot this year,” Sandfort said. “And you know, this dude is going to be in the NBA someday."
