IOWA CITY — Former Iowa women’s basketball player Shateah Wetering will join the UNI Panthers next season.
A 6-foot redshirt sophomore from Montezuma, Wetering has three years of eligibility remaining.
She announced her decision to leave the Hawkeyes on March 11.
Wetering was 11th on the team in minutes this season, averaging 1.3 points and 0.9 rebounds per game. She played in 14 games as the Hawkeyes went 31-7 and reached the NCAA national final.
She missed the 2021-22 season due to an ACL tear. She played in seven games as a freshman, scoring five points.
Wetering’s departure leaves Iowa with 14 players on scholarship for the 2023-24 season. Starters Monika Czinano and McKenna Warnock will depart; Kennise Johnson-Etienne and Ava Jones will enter.
That leaves one opening if the Iowa staff wants to pursue someone via the portal. The Hawkeyes have not landed anyone yet.
