Megan Gustafson’s first start of the WNBA season was a good one for the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces.
The 2019 National Player of the Year as an Iowa senior scored a season-high 13 points in the Aces’ 77-75 win over the Chicago Sky Sunday in Chicago.
Gustafson, a sixth-year pro, made 3 of 5 3-pointers. She made just one 3-pointer in her Iowa career, in which she scored 2,804 points.
It was just Gustafson’s sixth start in her 139 WNBA appearances. She entered Sunday’s game averaging 2.7 points this season.
Las Vegas improved to 18-11. Olympian center A’ja Wilson made a last-second layup off an inbounds play for the winning points. Chicago had tied the game on a Chennedy Carter 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left.
Chicago rookie Angel Reese had 11 points and a career-high 22 rebounds, her third-straight game with 20-plus boards.
