COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Lucy Olsen fueled a miraculous comeback as Iowa forced overtime.
But the magic stopped there.
Eighth-ranked Ohio State owned the extra five minutes and outlasted the Hawkeyes, 86-78, in a Big Ten women’s basketball game Monday afternoon at Value City Arena.
The Hawkeyes (18-8 overall, 8-7 Big Ten) trailed by 12 points with 90 seconds left in regulation, and were still down 70-60 with 1:10 to go.
Olsen hit three consecutive 3-pointers in a matter of 36 seconds, getting her team within 73-69 at the 0:24 mark.
With Iowa down four, Hannah Stuelke got a steal and Sydney Affolter converted a three-point play to make it 73-72 with 0:16 remaining.
Cotie McMahon hit the first of two free throws to put Ohio State (22-3, 11-3) up two, then Olsen made a pair of clutch foul shots to get Iowa even, 74-74 with 3.6 seconds to go.
Ohio State didn’t get a shot before the end of regulation.
Olsen’s drive started the overtime scoring to give Iowa its first (and only) lead of the game, 76-74. But Ohio State scored the next five points and ended the contest on a 12-2 push.
And with that, Iowa’s six-game winning streak came to an end.
Olsen finished with 27 points and seven assists. Kylie Feuerbach added 12 points (10 in the fourth quarter), Sydney Affolter 11 (and 15 rebounds), Stuelke 10.
Jaloni Cambridge paced Ohio State with 29 points, making 11 of 14 free throws. McMahon added 25 points, Kennedy Cambridge a career-high 16.
The Hawkeyes woke up late for their Monday matinee, making just 8 of 27 shots (29.6 percent) in the first half and committing nine turnovers.
That helped Ohio State to a 34-21 halftime lead, and the margin grew as large as 14 in the third quarter before the Hawkeyes started gaining traction.
They were within 51-44 by the end of the third quarter, then closed to 53-51 on Addison O’Grady’s basket with 7:33 to go.
Ohio State righted its ship and looked safe at 69-57, but some missed free throws and Olsen’s theatrics allowed Iowa to get to overtime.
The Hawkeyes stand in a tie for 10th place in the Big Ten with three regular-season games to play.
They host No. 3 UCLA at 1 p.m. Sunday.
