New Iowa men’s basketball coach has hired Josh Sash and Bryston Williams to be on his coaching staff.
The two were on McCollum’s Drake staff in the 2024-25 season.
“Josh has been an integral part of our success at Drake,” said McCollum. “He continues to impress me with his basketball acumen and his ability to be a sounding board for me as he is a former head coach. We’re so excited to have him on our staff.
“Bryston was my first recruit ever in coaching. He brings an unmatched energy and is relentless in recruiting. He is great with player relationships and will be a huge asset to our program.”
Sash is an Oskaloosa native. His brother was Tyler Sash, an Iowa All-Big Ten defensive back who died in 2015. Josh Sash was head men’s basketball coach at Indian Hills Community College (2023-24) and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) (2019-20).
“I am ecstatic and beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this staff, under the leadership of coach McCollum,” said Sash. “As a native Iowan and a lifelong Hawkeye, I cannot wait to ‘Fight for Iowa’, while proudly wearing the black and gold.”
Sash was an assistant coach at North Dakota State for three years, and before that was an assistant at Missouri-Kansas City.
Before joining McCollum at Drake, Williams was an assistant coach at Indiana State for two seasons and at Wyoming for one.
He also spent three seasons as an assistant for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, and spent two years working in the NBA G-League.
Williams scored over 700 points playing for McCollum at Northwest Missouri State was a graduate assistant for McCollum for two seasons.
