The Missouri Valley Conference’s leading men’s basketball scorer of 2022-23 is transferring to Iowa.
Ben Krikke, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward with one season of eligibility remaining, announced on Instagram Monday that he is going to become a Hawkeye.
Krikke averaged an MVC-high 19.4 points per game, 21.0 in league play. He also averaged 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.9 blocked shots in 35.7 minutes per contest for the 11-21 Crusaders. He shot a league-best 55.2 percent from the field, but was just 27.9 percent (17-of-61) from 3-point range.
Krikke started all 32 games for Valparaiso last season, and has 90 career starts. He is a career 80.7 percent free throw-shooter.
He was an All-MVC first-team selection this season and was on the conference’s scholar-athlete team. He was third-team All-MVC in the previous two seasons.
Krikke is Iowa’s first transfer of 2023 and first since Filip Rebraca two years ago.
Krikke is a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and attended high school there. He played for Team Canada at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup, averaging 9.9 points as the only player not from Ontario or Quebec. He never played hockey.
Here is an article in Krikke’s own words in the Valparaiso student newspaper.
