Alliant Energy will start construction on a new power plant in Cedar Rapids — called the Cedar River Generating Station and sited within the boundary of Alliant’s Prairie Creek Generating Station — next year, aiming to have the plant fully operational by mid-2027.
Iowa’s highways are built to withstand a wide variety of vehicles, from compact cars to eighteen-wheeler semis and large farm equipment. They do have their limits, though, and according to the Iowa State Patrol, that limit is about 80,000 pounds.

Iowa City’s Burlington Street Bridge is crossed by nearly 19,000 vehicles each day. But it is deteriorating.
