LouAnn Jayne of Marion told me about a great idea for gardeners with leftover seeds. She is starting a recycle/reseed project at the Marion Public Library.
Gardeners with leftover seeds can drop them off at the library's information desk, beginning now through May 1, to be distributed for free to anyone in need of seeds.
Seeds must be in their original packets and not more than 1 year old. They will be given away at the library from April 15 to May 15. Look for them in a box in the library's lobby. LouAnn said they will be divided into flowers and vegetables.
“You just hate to throw them away,” she said of the origins of her idea.
I know some seeds, such as cabbage, are good for years. Do you know of others?
LouAnn sees this as a pilot project, so depending on how it goes, it could be expanded to other areas in the future.
