Julie Gladfelder and Sheri Mealhouse of Cedar Rapids started Neighbor to Neighbor Sharing Plants shortly after the Floods of 2008.
The group began as a way to brighten the homes of area residents who lost everything, including their plants, in the floods.
I visited Julie's home, where hundreds of houseplants crowded tables and every other available space.
Since then, the organization has given away more than 1,600 houseplants and perennials.
With some people only now moving back to their rebuilt homes, Julie said the program is continuing.
Homeowners who will be dividing their perennials this spring can donate extras to the group.
Julie said she could also use donations of potting soil for the large number of houseplants that are rooting at her home.
To donate, call Julie at (319) 363-3121.
