How to recycle your Christmas lights

Stacie Johnson, education coordinator for the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, passed along the following about what to do with Christmas lights – working or not:

 1)      The Solid Waste Agency recycles them for free at either one of its locations: 1954 County Home Rd., Marion, or 2250 A St. SW, Cedar Rapids. The same is true for all electronics, except for TVs, cathode ray tubes and printers/fax/copiers, which have a recycling fee.

2)      Drop them off directly to Midwest Electronic Recovery in Walford. 

 3)   Marion Iron takes them for free (don't expect to be paid for the scrap wire).   

 4)   Alter Metal Recycling, 6305 11th St. SW, Cedar Rapids, will accept them as long as the bulbs / glass are removed from the strands.
