Linda Blank captured this photo of an injured hummingbird at her southeast Cedar Rapids home this week. Linda said she Googled hummingbirds with broken beaks and found that it is not all that uncommon. Some, they say, run into stationary objects.
The bird was back at her feeder last night, Linda wrote, “and she was having a hard time eating. Her bottom beak appeared to be at a different angle and this might have been the cause of the difficulty. She also seemed to be slightly uncoordinated. I do not think I will see her again.”
Linda said she had been putting up hummingbird feeders for several years and the birds seem to have returned to Iowa a little earlier than usual this year.
