High winds and rain have hampered construction, but progress continues on a new greenhouse at Lowe Park in Marion. Linn County Master Gardener, Devon Dietz, reported it will be several weeks before it is completed. Devon, who sent along these photos, noted that the greenhouse will be used to raise flowers for the City of Marion Parks and the Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens.
Most of the activity will focus on starting plants from seed late next winter.
In addition, the greenhouse will be used to grow coleus which are used in experiments by the Master Gardeners who teach "From the Ground Up" to 4th grade students in Linn County. These classes extend throughout the school year. The greenhouse will be used to teach classes to the public on a variety of subjects, such as starting transplants from seed and propagation of perennials.
The greenhouse is a joint project of the Linn County Master Gardeners and the City of Marion Parks & Recreation Department. Phil Pfister and Mike Anderson lead the project for the Master Gardeners and Richard Fox leads the project for the City of Marion Parks & Recreation Department.
