Garlic mustard pull postponed due to rain

Karen Brook of Trees Forever, sent out the following about events the group had scheduled in upcoming days:
Due to the rain, we're using our rain dates for the garlic mustard pull and tree plantings that were scheduled for this week. If you have any questions, contact me at kbrook@treesforever.org or (319) 373-0650 ext. 14.

Oak Hill Jackson Neighborhood Tree Planting, Cedar Rapids, IA
Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
Volunteers are invited to help plant trees in the Oak Hill Jackson neighborhood of Cedar Rapids. Volunteers should arrive at 9:00 at Metro High School (1212 7th Street SE) for a brief orientation before they are joined by Metro High School students for the tree planting. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and should dress for the weather and the dirt! Volunteers can also bring shovels or other tools, but should label their tools for easy identification. This tree planting completes the Oak Hill Jackson Neighborhood We Dig Your District planting sponsored by Alliant Energy and started last fall.The planting times are estimates. The more volunteers we have, the quicker it will go!

United Way of Caring Garlic Mustard Pull, Marion, IA

Join us on the United Way Day of Caring for a Garlic Mustard Pull in Marion at Thomas Park, 343 Marion Blvd. This is the new date for the event, which was postponed due to rain. Garlic mustard is an invasive weed which crowds out native woodland plants.Volunteers can participate anytime between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, though it will be most convenient if they arrive at 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the green pavilion to sign in and receive instructions. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and gloves. Long sleeves are optional, but everyone should dress for the weather. There is poison ivy in the woods, but those who are severely allergic to it can still provide volunteer support.

Street Tree Replacement Planting, Marion, IA

We Dig Your District Tree Planting at Ellis Harbor, Cedar Rapids, IA
Wednesday, May 26, 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. (Rain Date= May 28, 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.)
Join the Harbor Neighborhood Association, Trees Forever and Alliant Energy for We Dig Your District tree planting at the point in Ellis Harbor. Volunteers will plant ornamental trees to celebrate the area's efforts to recover from the 2008 flood. The planting is part of a larger project to plant trees in neighboring Ellis Park.
