Addicted to plastic

Our good friend Stacie Johnson, education coordinator for the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, has a fun, free event planned on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Knight's Pumpkin Farm near Whittier. The film, Addicted to Plastic, will be shown twice as part of the Environmental Film Festival. During the 2:30 p.m. showing, children's activities will be provided. The 5:30 p.m. showing, geared to adults, includes a bonfire and smores after the film.

 Stacie said the film not only presents the environmental problems associated with plastics, but offers solutions. She plans to showcase some innovations during the event, including new biodegradable bags used for chips, and diapers, made from corn, that are compostable.
