Tragedy On I-380
Two men employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation suffered fatal injuries in an accident in the northbound lanes of Interstate 380 in northeast Cedar Rapids on Friday, December 4, 1981. Dale Scott, 24, of Marion and Keith Bennett, 20, of Lisbon, were riding on a flatbed trailer pulled by a truck (seen at center right) while working on a new section of I-380 when a gust of wind lifted one of the highway barricades (foreground) also on the trailer, throwing the men to the pavement.
