It's a good thing that the bank building at the corner of Third Avenue and First Street West will be spared demolition. One of the hardest sights to see was the damage done to it during the flood.
But the original Louis Sullivan-designed building was just a fraction of the structure that stands now.
This portion of the building, pillars included was the original structure opened in 1911.
Below was the interior of the original bank.
What promises to become one of the places of interest in Cedar Rapids because of its originality and interior beauty, is the People's Savings Bank on the west side, which tonight will be opened to the public for the first time. (Photo and caption published Sept. 7, 1911)
