Sprawling Light Display in Yarmouth
Viewed from the top of nearby grain elevators, Christmas lights that lined the property and buildings of the Paul and Pauline Tonkinson farm just north of Yarmouth, Iowa on December 19, 1984 formed a geometric pattern in the night sky, stretching for nearly a quarter mile. The annual light display attracted thousands of visitors who drove past the brightly lit bulbs and Christmas scenes. Yarmouth is located in northwest Des Moines County, northeast of Mount Pleasant.
